About Us

Already a tech hub, Manchester has become the centre of a thriving Cyber Security community growing in the North. With Ecommerce, start-ups and SME’s in need of skilled security professionals and newcomers in need help and advice SkillSec is helping to bridge the skills gap and increasing cyber security awareness to promote good information security and collaboration in the industry.

 

Working in partnership to bring SkillSec to Manchester, Outsource UK and Digital Interruption want to help business offer ethical and inclusive working practices and to promote environments that empower their employees in a way where both the business and the individual benefit in the infosec profession. With an array of security conferences such as SteelCon and BSdies, community groups such as Manchester Grey Hats and the Infosec Hoppers and initiatives such as the Cyber Foundry we want the North to become the go-to place for these skills. 

 

Through our free resources and quarterly meetups we offer the opportunity for learning and development for those who need it, along with support and mentorship from others in our network who can offer encouragement and advice allowing experienced professionals can also give back to the community. 

Shirin Fahri

Shirin Fahri is Cyber Security Recruitment Consultant.  She works exclusively with AppSec and PenTest Professionals and is very passionate about ‘good InfoSec’, giving back to and supporting growth in the Security Community. 

 

She is an active OWASP Member, brought SkillSec to Outsource UK in December 2017 and is on the Board of Buddies for The InfoSec Hoppers.

 

Shirin blogs and writes articles on topical issues such as hacking the Cyber Security Skills Shortage and Over-Utilisation in the Professional Services Space – The Controversial Truth.  

 

She is a strong advocate for ‘People before Profit’ and beware likes to get on her soapbox about the treatment of InfoSec Professionals!

Jahmel Harris

Jahmel Harris, also known as Jay, is a security consultant, researcher, ethical hacker Director at Digital Interruption. With a background in software development and security, his work focuses both on the offensive “ethical hacking” side and in integrating secure coding practices into organisations and their project lifecycles.

Jahmel has a proven record of finding and providing recommendations on high and critical risk issues for FTSE 250 companies. He pushes industry knowledge forward with published security research and regularly presents worldwide to hackers and software developers.

 

Jahmel started Manchester Grey Hats, a community group in Manchester that runs free workshops and events. MGH works to teach security skills to those looking to move into security roles.

Saskia Coplans

Saskia Coplans is a registered Data Protection Officer (DPO), privacy specialist and Director at Digital Interruption. She has over ten years experience in information security and governance along with standards and policy development and infection governance across Europe and Central Asia.

Saskia represents a number of organisations as their DPO, along with the development of risk based defensive security strategies. She presents at events and conferences on security standards, compliance and ethical business practices.

Saskia is a founder of the InfoSec Hoppers, a group of women confronting the diversity gap in InfoSec by working together to highlight diversity issues in the industry and make conferences, events and meet-ups more accessible. She also sits on the board or OWASP Manchester.

Rosie Anderson

Rosie Anderson is a Cyber Security Recruitment Consultant, working with Senior Managers, Directors, CISOs, Partners, etc. 

 

She blogs frequently, publishes a quarterly Cyber Market Insights Report and runs a podcast where she and her guests speak about topical InfoSec issues.

 

She has also organised various Diversity and Inclusion events which has led to Outsource UK supporting many organisations in their D&I strategies. 

 

Off the back of this Outsource co-hosted an event with the NCSC last year which you can find information about here and are currently running a Cyber Security Training program for women who want to pivot into Cyber Security.
